Fluorescence

August 19, 2018 by Tom

I knew that some of the stones and minerals I use in my work fluoresce under a black light, so on inspecting a neighbors yard sale a few weeks back, I noticed he had a 2′ black light unit for sale, so I thought I’d buy it to see how my stones reacted to it.
That night I brought out a few of my pieces, and sure enough, they lit up like the stars. But I noticed something else too. As I waved the light by some of the pictures I’ve made frames for, and have hanging on my walls, WOW! They lit up like a 1960’s San Francisco night club!! Just INCREDIBLE! Especially the ones by Ciro Marchetti, The Golden Compass, Stahma Tarr, my two “Vikings” pictures, the Magician and many others.
Needless to say, I’ve taken a little time away from my rock work to collect and install some black light units over many of my pictures; running wires, outlets and switches through my walls and ceilings to control them. I’m so pleased with how they turned out. It adds a whole new viewing experience when looking at them in the dark.
So, as I’ve said, I’ve been a little slack on my rock work, but I’ve purchased some very beautiful new figures to work with and I’m sure I’ll be back working with them very soon. If you keep an eye on my web site, I put my new pieces up as soon as they’re finished. I think to see my newest ones the easiest, on my “Home” page, in the top bar, click on “Sculptures”. They will all show up there with the newest ones first. You can then grab the little slider bar at the right of the pics and scroll down through them, clicking on any one you’d like to see and learn about further.
Thank you for visiting my site, and if you’d ever like to purchase a piece from me, for yourself, or as a gift, please let me know and I’ll be glad to help you. Stay well. Tom
