The Balloon

I’ve used an excellent specimen of a Calcite (Twin) for the center of this piece. It comes from Mina Palmarejo, Chihuahua, Mexico. It’s got an incredible form, resembling many small steps and ledges, and is sprinkled with white Calcite.
The fine pewter figures are by Perth Pewter. I’ve given the lower figure a tether to hold onto a “Balloon”, (faceted Opal Glass) which he slowly releases. The small Wizard, with his cat, at the top of the stairs, also offers a small, faceted, lead glass sphere. On either side of the bottom stair I’ve added two small Amethyst spheres. The base is of a hardwood, Corymbia Opaca, or Bloodwood, from Australia. Its bottom is felted to protect furniture.
I have many hours in this piece. Anything I do with stairs and railings just takes an incredible amount of time.
