Now that the Tucson Gem Show has gone by for another year, I like to take some time away from my stone work, and continue on with other projects. I enjoy working with the stones very much, but I also like working with various metals. For many years now I’ve been creating picture frames from steel, copper, aluminum and other metals. After working on new pieces all year, as the Tucson Gem Show approaches, I always find myself rushing to get last minute things done. But it all does get done, and I hope each year, that folks will like the pieces I’ve created. After working so long and hard on my rock sculptures for the Feb. Tucson Gem Show, when the Show’s over, I like to take a break and work on other projects, one of which is picture frames. I make these from steel, copper, angle iron, aluminum, and other metals, usually burning the edges with a cutting torch, and then rough welding or hand riveting them together which gives them a very “old”, or “industrial”, type look. Each one is made for a specific image, painting or print. I’ll try to pick something interesting out from this image and bring it out onto the frame. Continue reading →
